Circle the Cat
This game is a simulation of the game 'Circle The Cat' at the following website:http://www.members.shaw.ca/gf3/circle-the-cat.html.To play, click 'run' then select the hand tool. Click on any of the light blue circles to make a 'wall' (pink circle). Each time you do this, the cat will advance toward what it calculates is its best path to the green border. If the cat reaches the border, you lose. If you completely encircle the cat with walls, you are in a winning position. To complete the win, you must completely contain the cat so that there are no surrounding blue circles. The cat will then 'surrender'! The 'wall' counter shows the total number of walls (pink circles) on the worksheet, initialized with the starting number on the worksheet. The 'move' counter shows the total number of game moves you make. The 'diff' counter shows the number of dffusion cycles between placing a 'wall' and the cat's hill-climbing evaluation of its next move. To experiment with alternate game boards, use the 'simulation properties' window to set 'automode' to '0'. You can then place or remove walls and the cat will not respond until you use the hand tool to click on the cat. Or load the 'blank' worksheet to create your own game board. You can also change the diffusion loop count in this window. Click on the upper left border (green dot) to reset all diffusion values and force a recalculation (when running). Click on the upper right border (red dot) to single step through the diffusion calculation when in stop. Examine diffusion values in background using the attributes window. The attributes window for the cat shows the latest 'decision' values of the cat, where 'maxout' is the diffusion value of the cell it chose and 'direction' is 0 = up, clockwise to 7 for upper left.
