High School Teacher Workshop: Computational Thinking and Computational Doing

Workshop Goals
- To enable you to bring computing concepts and activities into your high school classes. We'll approach this both by providing hands on experience with the widely-used Agentsheets visual programming system, and by discussing learning materials developed in our NSF-sponsored GK-12 and iDreams outreach projects. As the workshop title suggests, the aim is to convey both key concepts and important skills, both in a form that enable you to engage your students with the material.
- To provide you with information about opportunities involving the use of computing ideas and skills in a wide range of disciplines and occupations that you can share with your high school students
Financial Terms
Participants will receive a stipend of $300, of which $200 will be provided on completion of the workshop, and $100 following submission of a brief report describing how the participant has used the ideas from the workshop in their subsequent teaching.
Breakfast and lunch during the workshop days will be provided.
Non local and out of state travel may be covered (fully or partially) for selected applicants!
Who can apply
Teachers at any high school, teaching in any discipline, are welcome to apply. You do NOT have to be a "computer teacher", nor do you have to have any previous background in computing or technology.
The workshop is aimed at the high school level, but we can include middle school teachers who are working in partnership with high school participants. Email <anthea.johnson@colorado.edu> to inquire about this possibility.

Day 1 – Friday, June 17
Morning: starting 8 am, Schnabel Board Room, Atlas 1B31, directions with map
- 8:00 - 8:30 Breakfast, opportunity to install AgentSheets on your laptop if you forgot
- 8:30 - 9:00 Introduction of participants, and CU
- 9:00 - 9:45 Introduction to computational thinking (conceptual)
- 9:45 - 11:30 Introduction to AgentSheets (hands on)

Afternoon: at Google 12pm
